CHAPTER 9

CAREY SAT on the couch in Jase’s living room, lost in thought. Jase had left for band rehearsal a little while before, telling Carey he would be home in a couple of hours, depending on how much of a slave driver Layla decided to be. They’d both laughed at the thought of the petite redhead running roughshod over four big men, which included a cop and an ex-Navy doc, but it happened every single time.

Jase had invited Carey to come with, but he’d declined, saying he wanted to stay there and do his prescribed home exercises. In reality he wanted a little time to himself to gather his thoughts. Jase seemed to understand that, accepting Carey’s explanation without question, a clap to the shoulder and a “See ya, man” his only gesture on his way out the door. Carey was grateful for the casualness; it was exactly what he’d needed right then. Jase knew his mind and heart so well, and now he’d played Carey’s body like a finely tuned instrument.

Jesus, he’d never felt anything that intense in his entire life. He’d wanted to ask Jase if that’s how it always was between men, but in the next instant, he’d realized what a boneheaded question that was and was glad he’d kept his mouth shut. He was experienced enough to know that most of the intensity of the sex with Jase stemmed from their feelings for each other.

Just what those feelings were was what had Carey so confused. He wasn’t gay, so how could he say he was falling for another man? Want to fuck him? Absolutely. Carey was starting to accept his body responded to Jase’s touch in a way it hadn’t for anyone else ever. Sexual chemistry was a powerful thing, and he and Jase had it in spades.

After all, maybe this would all just turn into some sort of sexual experiment. He did consider himself open-minded and had come to terms with the fact that he wanted to have sex with his male best friend for many reasons. Could they have some fun, fuck it out of their systems, and go on with their lives? How would Carey feel when it was over?

Too many questions to be answered, at least at the moment. Carey was slipping back into his tendency to borrow trouble, to anticipate problems that hadn’t happened yet and might never happen.

He took a deep breath and repeated Jase’s mantra, “Just focus on today. Let’s just get through today.” And today had turned out to be pretty fucking fantastic. Carey grinned to himself. Damn, that was some smokin’ hot sex. It was rough and filthy, and Carey had loved every single minute. He couldn’t wait for more.
